Goth Hairstyles and Hair Cuts

Goth hairstyles are expressions of the gothic subculture’s identity practices. Gothic people enjoy living life away from what is considered to be mainstream society.

While some of this is noted in the way goths think and act, the message that they send to others through fashion is of utmost importance.

The way a goth styles their hair is usually a reflection on who they are as a person. Since no person is the same as anyone else there are many ways that goths style their hair.

Many goths alter their hair to create the most unique styles possible. This is most often done through the use of hair dyes.

Black hair is very common but wild and bright colors are frequently used due to a punk influence which took over during the 1990s. Major hair alterations like dread locks, hair extensions and falls are popular too.

Two extremely famous goth hairstyles are the undershave and the undercut haircuts. The undershave cut is done by shaving the hair at the back and sides of the head but leaving hair on top. The hair at the top of the head is then styled or left alone. The undershave is a unisex haircut with tons of possibilities.

On the other hand, undercut haircuts are very similar to the undershave except that instead of some of the hair being shaved off, the hair is only clipped to a short length.

An example of these cuts is the bob. Many female goths prefer the bob haircut because it is easy to maintain.

Another style adapted from punk rock is the mohawk. This is where the head is shaved on both sides and a piece of hair is left to lay in the middle. Goths often dye their mohawks wild colors and spike them up.

Other popular goth hairstyles include angled or parted hair and messy hair. The angled look is created by growing the hair out and parting it at an angle.

It is worn down and can cover up one eye or a whole side of the face. Messy hair can be achieved either by lots of styling or none at all.
