Goth Makeup - How to do Goth Make Up

Goth Makeup is worn by both men and women. It is characterized as being mostly dark around the eyes and on the lips and very light on the cheeks, nose and forehead. Dark colors are used to create a one of a kind look that stands out from the rest of society.

Stereotypes about goths assume that all gothic people wear the same type of makeup. While this is not the case for everyone, there are some typical ways in which people do wear it.

For the most part, goths wear some type of eye makeup. This is often mascara used to accentuate the eyelashes, eye shadow to offset the color of the eyes, and eyeliner to make the color of the eyes stand out.

The mascara and eyeliners are usually black while eye shadows can range from very dark to very bright yellows, reds, blues or greens to name a few. Some goths also use eyeliner to draw vertical lines coming down from their eyes or draw designs on their face.

Lipsticks are usually worn in dark or deep colors. Blacks, burgundies, purples and reds are very popular looks for the lips. Lip liners in dark shades are used as an outline which helps create fuller lips with a much more noticeable lip color.

Goth makeup can also consist of white facial concealer to make the face look as pale as possible. This is painted on the face to offset dark lips and eyes. Some prefer a light white shade while others prefer looking ghostly.

Black nail polish is another staple of gothic subculture. Body and facial glitter also add a finishing touch to the gothic look.

There is a wide variety of goth makeup available. Most of these items can be found in regular stores. However, for a more original look goth’s can buy from specialty makeup stores. These places have more color selection so that one can achieve the look they desire.
