Goth Models - The Icons of Goth Fashion

Goth models are the icons of gothic fashion. They truly represent what style is all about. Since there are no limits to gothic fashion and the subculture is heavily based on having an independent mind set, these models are able to dress in anything considered out of the mainstream.

This leaves innumerable options available as the unique do-it-yourself attitude of goth culture perfectly embodies what lies at the core of modeling, originality.

One of the most famous models of this genre is the legendary Bettie Page. Bettie rose to fame in the 1950s in the United States as a fetish model and pin up girl. She is well known for her striking appearance, mid length jet black hair with straight bangs, bright red lipstick and stunning figure.

In her modeling days, Bettie wore a lot of what is considered to be today’s sexy gothic fashion. In her photos she wears black stockings, bras, corsets, gloves and stilettos.

After converting to Christianity in the 1960s, Bettie Page’s career faded but returned again during the 1980s after the birth of the punk and goth scenes. Many goths pay tribute to her by wearing clothing that features her pictures.

Goth models are both male and female. Their makeup almost makes the skin look like porcelain with whites that practically glow. Hair extensions are extremely popular for these models and are often made up of colors that will match the wearer’s clothes.

Eye makeup is usually heavy and dark or a combination of black and bright neon-like colors. Fashions vary from model to model but mostly center around the color black. For both, styles are very provocative, morbid and artistic.

The goth apparel industry continues to expand and fashion shows to showcase these models have become more common. One major fashion event for goth models is Nocturnal Instincts which is held in Melbourne.

Gothique Fashion in Seattle has been one of the longest running fashion shows in the industry, holding two shows each year since 2003. Many shows take place in gothic night clubs as well.
