Gothic Corsets – Corsets, Bustiers and Shaping Belts

Not everyone thinks corsets and romantic clothing when they hear the word goth, but if you look closely at gothic clothing and people you know who dress in the goth style, you will quickly realize that romantic clothing is more often than not the basis of gothic dress. Gothic corsets can be an important part of the goth wardrobe.
There are many variations these days on the traditional corset, and they can all work well as part of your goth look. Corsets have evolved through many, many variations over the centuries.
They are much smaller these days than they were 150 years ago. It isn’t the long contraption Mammy was forcing Scarlett into while she hung onto the bedpost any more.
A typical corset comes slightly over the hips and can either cover the bust, come halfway across it, or rest just under it. It laces up the back and for ease of entry has hooks and eyes up the front. Any of these lengths make great gothic corsets.
Keep in mind that your corset doesn’t have to fit tightly. It will give you a very shapely look if it’s tight, of course, but it will also be uncomfortable. If you’d like to wear it a little looser, that’s your choice! It’s perfectly fine. This is your look, so do what you want.
In addition to regular corsets, you can also wear a bustier. Bustiers have more shaping around the chest, and the often have shoulder straps as well.
Sometimes they lace up the front, or they may have hooks and eyes or zippers. You can also find great belts that are wide and act sort of like corsets.
Corsets, bustiers and shaping belts can all be worn over your favorite goth tops and blouses. They will give a great romantic feel, especially if they are particularly blousy shirts.
Gothic corsets are a great way to add to your personal style. They are attractive and unique. While they’re a great addition to the goth wardrobe, most people don’t wear them, so you will truly be proclaiming your individual style with them!
