Gothic Dresses – They Don’t Have to Be Black to Be Goth

Dressy and formal affairs are great times to showcase your goth look. Gothic dresses are easy to find. That is, dresses that go with the goth style are easy to find, and by combining them with goth accessories and just the right hair and make-up, you can look goth at any occasion.

Many people assume that you have to wear all black to pull of goth. Not true! Dark red, navy, and purple are awesome colors for goth, and even some pastels, like pink, work well. The trick is in the fit.

Go for styles that remind you of the 1800’s and early 1900’s. A tightly corseted dress in any of those colors with a flowing skirt will be great. Make it more got by giving it a random, zig zag or random hem.

If you have a very slender figure, you can even go with a dark dress in the 1920’s flapper style. Again, flowy skirts are the key to pulling off a goth look with this type of dress.

You can even combine different pieces to come up with a great look. Why not get a great gothic dress and put a leather corset over it?

The key to keeping your look goth is in the accessorizing. Large pieces of jewelry in the traditionally goth style will leave no one wondering what your style is. Chunky necklaces and bracelets and maybe even a chain or two can complete your look.

Fish net stockings are a popular choice to go with dresses when you’re dressing goth, as are widely horizontal striped tights. There’s no reason you can’t show up at homecoming or prom in a gorgeous dress and funky tights. Add a pair of great goth boots or sky-high heels, and you’ll turn heads.

Of course, you’ve gotta do your face and hair, too. If you dress goth on a regular basis, you already have your signature style. Definitely do it up a little more for a special occasion, though.

Add more kohl around the eyes, even glam it up just a little with killer fake eyelashes. Dressing in gothic dress for prom or another special night is no harder than doing it for every day.

I agree. Gothic clothing definitely doesn’t have to be black! Reds, purples, greens, blues and even white can look dark, menacing and beautiful if worn in the right way.
